Died: Ibou Faye, 55
On May 26, in Dakar, Senegal. The 3-time African champion in the 400H (48.30A PR) anchored the Senegalese 4×4 that placed 4th in the ’96 Olympics.
Died: Natalya Shikolenko, 61
On May 15, in Minsk, Belarus. The ’92 Olympic silver medalist and Atlanta 12th-placer in the javelin was also the ’95 world champion. She was a 6-time World Ranker, with No. 1s in ’92 & ’95.
Died: Lachie Stewart, 81
On May 31, in Glasgow, Scotland. The Scottish distance runner World Ranked No. 3 in the 10,000 in ’70. That was the year he beat Ron Clarke for the gold at the Commonwealth Games.
Died: Karsten Stolz, 60
On May 03, in Oberhausen, Germany; from heart disease. A finalist in the shot at the ’87 Worlds, he World Ranked No. 10 in ’89. ◻︎
